How the Perfect Order card list is organised

The Perfect Order card list has two parts. The main set runs from 001 to 088, and those 88 cards carry the printed set total. Cards numbered 089 to 124 sit above that total, which is why collectors call them secret rares. That gives the Perfect Order set list 124 cards in all: 88 in the main set and 36 secret rares.

Within the main set, Pokémon come first and are grouped by type: Grass (001–012), Fire (013–017), Water (018–025), Lightning (026–029), Psychic (030–036), Fighting (037–047), Darkness (048–054), Metal (055–059) and Colorless (060–067). Trainer cards follow in alphabetical order from 068 to 085, and three Special Energy cards close the main set at 086–088.

The secret section repeats that logic. Illustration Rares (089–099) run in type order, Ultra Rare Pokémon ex (100–107) come before Ultra Rare Trainers (108–117), the Special Illustration Rares follow (118–123), and the Mega Hyper Rare sits alone at 124. Once you know the pattern, finding a gap in the Perfect Order checklist takes seconds.

Rarity counts at a glance

Here is how the Perfect Order card list breaks down by rarity. The secret rare counts match the official breakdown of 11 Illustration Rares, 18 Ultra Rares and six Special Illustration Rares.

  • Common: 44 cards
  • Uncommon: 24 cards
  • Rare: 11 cards (8 Pokémon and the 3 Special Energy)
  • Double Rare: 9 cards, every Pokémon ex in the main set
  • Illustration Rare: 11 cards
  • Ultra Rare: 18 cards (8 Pokémon ex and 10 Trainers)
  • Special Illustration Rare: 6 cards
  • Mega Hyper Rare: 1 card

The main set holds 67 Pokémon, 18 Trainer cards and 3 Special Energy. Grass is the biggest type on the Perfect Order set list with 12 Pokémon and Fighting is next with 11, while Lightning has the fewest at four.

Promo cards are not part of this Perfect Order checklist. The full-art Tyrunt from Elite Trainer Boxes, for example, is numbered MEP 070 in the Mega Evolution Black Star Promo series, so track promos on a separate page of your binder.

Perfect Order chase cards

Most of the Perfect Order chase cards sit in the 36 secret rares. Mega Zygarde ex dominates, but the Special Illustration Rares give you six very different targets, and several Illustration Rares are favourites in their own right.

Mega Hyper Rare: Mega Zygarde ex (124)

The top card on the Perfect Order card list is Mega Zygarde ex at 124, the set’s only Mega Hyper Rare. Mega Zygarde ex is also the only card printed four times, at 047 (Double Rare), 104 (Ultra Rare), 120 (Special Illustration Rare) and 124. Collecting all four is a neat mini-goal within the set.

The six Special Illustration Rares

  • 118 Mega Starmie ex
  • 119 Mega Clefable ex
  • 120 Mega Zygarde ex
  • 121 Meowth ex
  • 122 Jacinthe
  • 123 Rosa’s Encouragement

Four Pokémon ex and two Supporters make up this tier. Note that Mega Skarmory ex has no Special Illustration Rare, and neither do Decidueye ex, Salazzle ex or Yveltal ex. Lapras ex appears only once on the whole Perfect Order card list, as Double Rare 022, with no full-art version at all.

Illustration Rares worth a look

The 11 Illustration Rares are Spewpa, Rowlet, Talonflame, Aurorus, Dedenne, Clefairy, Espurr, Probopass, Drapion, Doublade and Raticate. They are full-artwork cards of regular Pokémon, and for many collectors they are the most enjoyable Perfect Order chase cards because each one tells a little scene. Clefairy (094) pairs naturally with Mega Clefable ex if you like building small themed pages.

Trainer cards worth noting

The Trainer section of the Perfect Order set list has 18 main-set cards: 11 Items, 5 Supporters, 1 Pokémon Tool and 1 Stadium. Supporters Jacinthe, Naveen and Tarragon, plus the Lumiose City Stadium and Lumiose Galette Item, tie the set to Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Rosa’s Encouragement and Judge complete the Supporters, and Core Memory is the only Tool.

Four Trainers appear only as Ultra Rares, so they will never turn up as a Common or Uncommon: Energy Recycler (108), Forest of Vitality (109), Sacred Ash (115) and Wondrous Patch (117). Jacinthe and Rosa’s Encouragement each have three versions on the Perfect Order checklist (Uncommon, Ultra Rare and Special Illustration Rare), while Naveen, Tarragon, Lumiose City and Poké Pad have two.

Fossil collectors should note Antique Jaw Fossil (068) and Antique Sail Fossil (069). They sit beside Tyrunt and Amaura, which are Stage 1 cards in this set and lead to Tyrantrum and Aurorus.

Checklist tips for completing the set

  1. Start with the main set. Ticking off 001–088 of the Perfect Order card list first gives you a playable, complete-looking binder before you chase the secret rares.
  2. Plan your binder pages. A nine-pocket page layout fits the full Perfect Order card list on 14 pages with two spare pockets, or the main set alone on 10 pages.
  3. Group duplicates by name. Twenty-five names appear more than once, so sort by number rather than by name to avoid mixing an Uncommon with its Ultra Rare.
  4. Sleeve the secret rares straight away. Anything from 089 upwards on the Perfect Order set list deserves a penny sleeve and a top loader before it goes anywhere near a binder.
  5. Keep promos separate. MEP promos such as Tyrunt are not on the Perfect Order checklist, so give them their own page.

If you plan to open a lot of packs at once, our Perfect Order booster box guide explains what a full box can and can’t do for set completion. The Perfect Order Booster Box holds 36 packs, while the Perfect Order Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box pairs 11 packs with two Tyrunt promos.
