Heroes Against Giovanni’s Team
The expansion’s storyline sets heroic Trainers and their partner Pokémon against Team Rocket’s latest scheme. On the heroes’ side you’ll meet pairings like Cynthia with Garchomp ex, Ethan with Ho-Oh ex and Arven with Mabosstiff ex. Switch allegiance and you can fight alongside Team Rocket’s Pokémon, including Mewtwo ex, under Giovanni’s command.
Going by the set overview, the expansion offers:
- Over 240 cards to collect
- Over 85 Trainer’s Pokémon, more than 45 of which belong to Team Rocket
- More than 15 Pokémon ex
- More than 20 Trainer cards
- Over 45 Pokémon and Trainer cards with special illustrations
Trainer’s Pokémon are cards that tie a Pokémon to a particular Trainer, which is why you’ll see names such as Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex throughout the set. They give the expansion a strong story feel, whichever side you choose.
Who It Suits
Players building Trainer’s Pokémon decks get a deep pool to draw from, while collectors hunting special illustration cards have 36 packs to work through. A full Destined Rivals booster box also makes a great centrepiece for a pack-opening session with friends.
